Martin... เมื่อก่อนใช้ไส้ (filler) mahogany ใน Series 1และ Road Series ปัจจุบันใช้ขี้เลื่อยผสมกาวอัดใน HPL Series ครับ
Taylor....ใช้ไส้ poplar อย่างเดียวไม่ว่าไม้วีเนียปะข้างบนจะเป็นไม้อะไร Bob Taylor เองก็ยืนยันว่ากีตาร์รุ่นเดียวกันที่ไม้ข้างและไม้หลังเป็น laminate เสียงจะเหมือนกัน 100% ไม่ว่าไม้วีเนียจะเป็น mahogany, rosewood หรือ koa
Gibson....กีตาร์ไฟฟ้า hollow body ใช้ไส้เป็น poplar เหมือนกัน
ํYamaha....ใช้ไส้ไม้ natoh ซึ่งเป็นไม้เนื่ออ่อน ถ้าเป็น laminated top ใช้ spruce ล้วนๆครับ
K. Yairi..... เขาบอกว่าใช้ไม้ชนิดเดียวกันทั้งหมดแต่ไส้ใช้ไม้ flat-sawn ที่ราคาถูกกว่า
“The "laminate" back and sides are NOT the filler-veneer sandwich you see on many budget guitars. Yairi started using this decades ago in their classicals as it was the Ramirez building approach at the time if I recall correctly. It's a 3-layer sandwich of the tone wood itself (eg rosewood-rosewood-rosewood). The idea was to increase strength without sacrificing tone."

“Laminated spruce tops are usually all spruce. Rosewood and mahogany laminates typically have a core which is a lighter wood. Three layers of rosewood would be very stiff and somewhat damp. To counter this we use a core of a lighter wood with a veneer of rosewood on each side. This allows for a good amount of natural resonance.”
Mark ยังเล่าให้ฟังถึงเรื่องความแตกต่างของ solid กับ laminate จากการทดลองจริงไว้ด้วยครับ
“We have done some exhaustive studies on these subjects over the past few years. Not just B+S woods but bridge materials and designs, neck materials and weights, finishes and all kinds of stuff.
Having a nice big factory is a great asset as we can play games with materials and designs. Recently we built 16 TAN16C guitars all with different B+S woods including laminates Just to see what the sonic differences would be. The results were very interesting. We had a huge group of players from our distributors all over the world that sat and played these units. Then we all sat and listened to them being played by a really good player and judged each guitar by its performance when we played it and when we listened to it being played from a distance. As a rule the top three guitars judged by playing were not the same as when judged by listening. It was a very cool experiment.
As to the Laminated vs. solid question, the one undisputable characteristic difference is that a solid back gives the player a better "ambient" experience than a laminate. The solid wood tends to "buzz" into your body better than the ply stuff does. And the mahogany family of woods is the best at creating this ambient experience. The rosewood families a little less so, and the ebony families the least so. Across the room the differences really start to diminish.
In our little experiment there were only a couple of players that did not find the laminated back units when they played them. Finding them from across the room was far less reliable.
You know what happens is kind of like what Ovation guitars go through. People diss the Ovation tone mostly because in my opinion they do not give the player that much of a buzz because they are designed to reflect and project the energy of the soundboard. This they do exceptionally well. Listen to them across the room and they ROCK!!
Of course when you plug in, all the material questions pretty much become moot points.”
