Hi guys, let me see if I can clear up a few questions for you.
1. These are additions to the existing Authentic line. It is not a separate line called "New Authentics". The word "new" should not have been capitalized in the press release.
2. The two 28's are MRW.
3. Yes, all the Authentics continue to be constructed with hide glue.
4. They all have the thin finish package and a very slight toner over the entire guitar to warm up the appearance. Same thing we did to the D-45A last year.
5. The 18's no longer use a Brazilian headplate or backstrip. It is now MRW.
6. The previous 1937 D-18A is being discontinued.
7. The OM18A and 12-fret 28A will have ebony trussrods. A bar-fret option is available on these two models (warning: pricey)

Let me begin by stating the new Authentics have been a labor of love for many of us and we are very proud of the result. Each guitar was spec'd using the actual vintage instrument. On these new Authentics you will notice that the peghead is thinner (about the thickness of a current peghead veneer thinner), the neck heels are like the originals and the transitions from the neck barrel to the peghead are beautifully recreated. These guitars feel, sound and play fantastic. From the bracing layout to the number of cloth strips inside to the thickness of the inside backstrip, each guitar is a faithful reproduction of the original. Even the CF Martin decal on the OM18A is different and matches the original. All the guitars are still being made in the Custom Shop.

I figured there would be some questions regarding the use of MRW. It was apparent to us that using BRW for anything other than uber-45's was not a sustainable proposition. The pricing alone was a huge barrier, to all but the most fortunate among us, and that prevented us from getting these classic designs into the hands of most players. The decision was made to use MRW. Now I know some of you will say "how can you still call it Authentic?". My answer is these guitars are as authentic as todays materials allow. We also don't use real tortoise shell or actual ivory any longer. It is imperative that as a manufacturer we remain nimble and flexible and change as our environment changes without losing sight of our our history and legacy. We are not alone regarding this issue. Other classic american guitar manufacturers such Gibson and Fender no longer offer BRW fingerboards on their re-issue electrics. Most guitar players understand this real world issue facing the builders.

Why the change in pricing? First and foremost, we have worked hard to train new custom shop craftsman the old world techniques necessary to build these types of instruments. We promoted three employees to the custom team this year and this additional capacity has improved our ability to handle more orders and the efficiency with which we complete the orders. We also eliminated the BRW on the 18's which allowed us to move their pricing down. Passing the savings on to you.

All these changes allow us to expand the line in coming years (wink wink KYDave) and gives people the opportunity to experience a guitar that is as close to vintage as possible. Let's be honest, most of us will never be lucky enough to own a pre-war Martin but the Authentics are the next best thing for us mere mortals. I did get to play a mint 37' D-28 that we are considering as our next museum purchase and the volume completely blew my mind!!

Yes, there will be a CS model introduced at the NAMM show. Only 80 pieces will be made.
