Let me chime in a little bit here;
It's so true just like you said. Whoever wants to buy guitars and thinks that he'll make some financial gain in the future is simply fooling himself in every respect.
I myself never had a lot of guitars, I consider them as burdens and I never want to be " A beast of burden" to any material stuffs
The only guitar that I've ever made a PROFIT with is the used "Gibson Dove" that I bought around mid 70s in a pawn shop in Hollywood area for $250 and sold it to my American friend who loves Gibson for $500 which was much lower than the market price at that time. I just didn't have a heart to make any profit out of my friends and I just sold to him based on his offer.
The other guitars that I got rid off (and still try to unload most of them) were gone pretty fast because I sold them so low. I figured if I don't have enough time to play then there's no reason to keep them in their own cases, and I'd rather let someone else who doesn't have a lot of money to buy the brand new ones to have fun with them in stead.
Almost of my guitars are bought used (most of them are in really nice condition), so I didn't really pay a lot of money for them in the first place. In other words I didn't really loose a lot of money selling them.
But again, I can't speak for anybody else but myself. If you're happily transacting your guitars in anyway you like and enjoy doing that then power to you. Just don't feel bad for what you thought it should make you gain some financial profit but it came out the other way around
