The short answer is that anything but a close flawless circle (and in fact, anything shy of a strict immaculate circle) is an oval. It's unbelievably troublesome for a body to go in a (close )flawless circle around its host star- - simply the conceivable courses for it to travel are about boundless, and to hit that impeccable circle is verging on incomprehensible.
