Make it simple like this;

Structure of Major chords is 1 3 5, you start counting root note (the same name as the chord you are forming) which is G in this particular one as 1, so G is 1, B is 3 and D is 5 OK?

Now, if you keep on counting to E then is E is 6, still with me?

So right here if you have G B D and E, you are having G Major 6 chord.

If you keep on counting to 9, you will see that the note at 9 is A

And that's why the group of GBDEA notes is called "Gmajor6add9" chord. Got it??

You can actually bring up any note of GBDEA as the first and call it as the root note to make it another chord name for example you can say DABGE and then manipulate the chord structure and make up the chord name yourself!
